A Pasta Sauce That Takes Care of Your Heart

How do you choose pasta sauce?

The Mister ONLY buys a certain brand.

I usually purchase what's on sale.

My mom gets low or no-salt.

Which got me thinking, is there a healthier pasta sauce out there? Aren't the all just tomatoes, olive oil, and preservatives?

Photobucket

Aparently not! I was asked to review a new kind of sauce from Francesco Rinaldi and here's what I learned...

Francesco Rinaldi ToBe Brand of Sauce Has Pasta Sauce with DHA Omega 3

Omega fatty acids may reduce the rist of heart disease and each serving of Francesco Rinaldi ToBe Healthy pasta sauce has 64mg of DHA Omega 3. These sauces have been certified by the American Heart Association and have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

Francesco Rinaldi ToBe Healthy comes in 4 flavors:

Tomato & Basil

Garden Vegetable

Garlic & Onion

Spicy Marinara

How do they taste?

We got to review the Tomato & Basil and Spicy Marinara sauces

What I liked...

Photobucket

The Twofer love it and it's a great way to know they are getting a little Omega3 on the weeks we don't eat fish.

The Mister loved the spicy sauce and is no longer restricted to his ONE brand.

The sauces comes in a 16-ounce jar and retail for just $2.49 which is a great price for a healthy food.

So, knowing that some sauces really are healthier than others, will it change what you buy?

Disclosure: I received two jars of Francesca Rinaldi ToBe Healthy sauce at no cost for the purpose of this review. All opinions here are mine and this post was neither reviewed nor approved prior to publishing.

Bendaroos might be exception to the "as seen on TV" rule

UPDATE: winner is...Allison, aka: PeppermintAllie

Congrats!!

______________________________

I have a rule in my house...

It always looks better on TV. That goes for toys, kitchen gagets, even celebrities.

And just like Ralphie in A Christmas Story, The Twofer have had to learn this lesson the hard way.

So many times they see commercials for gagets and toys that 'look so cool Mom!' Finally, after a number of infomercial failures they are starting to listen to the rule.

That is, until now.

Bendaroos are sticky fun without the mess

Bendaroos, those sticky, waxy sticks that you can wind and mush together are actually fun and spark creativity in kids...at least my kids.

So much fun, infact that the girls have spent several nights playing with them and....get this....a Saturday morning! Can you say 'sleep in'?

This is what I woke up to this weekend....

Twins quietly playing with Bendaroos on Saturday morning

Results: fire, flower, pineapple, watermelon

Bendaroos theme packs make great gifts

Want to give it a try but not invest in a whole Bendaroos collection? There are cool new theme packs with 100 or 200 Bendaroos so the investment is small but the creative reward is big.  I received a Tropical Island pack to review and The Twofer started with the templates, but quickly started using their imagination to create figures, furniture, and then the got the wood blocks out to make a house for the Bendaroos family!

Tropical pack of Bendaroos = surprising fun

Even after a few days of playing, we still have lots of Bendaroos left but I'll consider buying more to take with us to the beach for a rainy day. Check out Bendaroos on Facebook for craft ideas, photos, and more.

Ah ha! Gotcha! MAXSA Motion-Activated Solar Security Light Review

Everyone knows by now that I love my neighborhood. It's the kind of place where the kids can walk to their friends house, people wave as they drive by, and we yell at each other's children.

It seems other people are now interested in my neighborhood but for entirely different reasons.

They want to steal things.

They like open garages, unlocked cars, and dark corners.

Image of Shop Lifter/Thief via Jeremy Burgin on Flickr

One group of really smart hoodlums went into my friend's garage...at 8:00 pm while her husband was just inside bringing out the trash...and sat in their parked car and started rummaging around! What's more...they love on a cul-de-sac and the 'getaway' car was in the circle and had to drive past my friend's husband to get their other friend as he ran from the garage.

Yes, they were caught.

I hope it was worth the $.80 they made off with. I'm. Not. Kidding. eighty cents

Anyway, dumb or not I'd like to disuade any hoodlums from even trying, but leaving my outside lights on all night is a) costly and b) burns the bulbs out quicker than you can say, "Ah ha! Gotcha!"

Solar powered, motion-activated security lights

I recently met the company MAXSA at the DC Consumer Electronics Show and learned about some great residential (and commercial) products they have on the market including security lights.

They sent me a sample solar motion-activated security light to test and I have to say this is cool. During the day the solar charge panel converts sunlight into electricity and charges the batteries. The batteries then power the LED lights which turn on autmatically at night when motion is detected and lasts up to 4 minutes.

Image via MAXSA cause my photos were terrible

What I like:

It uses no electricity (saves me money).

I like the motion-activated 'surprise' any ne're-do-well will get if they set it off.

I like that you can control the amount of time the lights stay on up to 4 minutes.

I won't have to remember to turn the light on or off for guests as they arrive or leave in the dark!

Other Cool Stuff for the Home from MAXSA

My friends over at MAXSA knew I was excited about the solar security lights but THEY were really excited to tell me about their garage laser park system...and here's I start to think The Mister put them up to all this.

I mean, how did they know I'm always bumping into the freezer we have in our garage with my car?

They also have some very cool products for the car...and thus, Father's Day {hint hint} like the 3-outlet power adaptor (hello tailgating!) and foldable traction mats (for off-roading warriors).

Next on my list I think will be the solar walkway lights and flameless candle lanterns.

And a motion-activated vampire that pops out of the bushes...that's get them!

Review: Can Steaz replace my 3:00 coffee fix?

Not sure how much I've blogged about my passion addiction love of coffee here but those who follow me on Twitter know I make a pot 'o Joe just about every afternoon. I love the bold, rich taste and I make it sweet so it cures that craving too. Plus, I perk up and can power through homework and dinner.

I have a new suitor.

His name is Steaz

A few weeks ago I was invited to join some fabulous bloggers at Whole Foods in Silver Spring, MD for a lovely dinner and an introduction to Steaz - part soda, part tea.

Steaz are low in calories (some zero calorie and sweetened with all-natural Stevia)

Steaz are made from tea

Some are bubbly

Some give you energy***

They are all-natural, organic and made with Fair Trade teas

I also learned that founder, Eric was raised in a completely organic household and the poor guy probably had to deal with kids making fun of him while he ate his seaweed chips and tofu during lunch, but his mother made him this promise:

"One day it will be cool to be organic"

And that mother of his gave him the strength to look those bullies with the partially-hydrogenated, orange-puff stained fingers in the eye and say, "Yea! At least no bully wants to steal my lunch!"

Wait, that might not be entirely true because I only heard parts of the story as I was busy sipping Steaz and eating some yummy vegetarian dishes but you get the point.

Steaz are cool. They are so much better for you than soda and they taste great! And they can also give you a little kick around 3:00.

***I'm talking about my new love:

The other day I replaced my cofee with one and I loved it! It gave me a little kick without the upset stomach I sometimes get with too much coffee. It took the edge off the sweet craving and I sailed through homework and cooking dinner. And I didn't have the I-forgot-to-empty-the-coffee-grinds mess I usually have each morning. And with that, I've rambled on enough. Now I need to grab a Steaz.

Janine

Disclosure: I received a fun visit with some local blog friends, free samples of Steaz as well as yummy food from Whole Foods. As if that weren't enough I got a cute little goody bag that had more Steaz and some organic beauty supply samples. All opinions here are mine and the part about Steaz founder, Eric, as a kid is made up based on the parts I heard him say because I was truly engrossed in drinking his Steaz. This post was not reviewed (obviously or there would have been some decent editing) nor approved prior to posting.

Spring Cleaning Nooks and Crannies...and I'm not talking English Muffins

We have 2 cats...American Short Hair is what I think their technical name is. My cats are much smaller than your average dog yet they still have a lot of that 'short' hair which gets everywhere!

Also, we have wood floors. Infact, our entire lower level is wood floor. Do the math:

cat hair + wood floors = TONS of dust bunnies

Our dust bunnies get into every little nook and cranny of our house. But....so does my new Swiffer SweeperVac!

Seriously - I'm digging this thing.

It's a dry cloth sweeper with a mini, cordless, rechargable vacuum attached! It weighs just a few pounds but sucks up fine dust, pet hair, food particles, crumbs, pet hair, dirt, annnnnnd pet hair. It has a removable bin and filter to trap the crumbs and larger particles. And the battery can last through up to five rooms of cleaning.

Here are two of our tough spots for pet hair and you can see how the Swiffer SweeperVac easily fits!

Swiffer SweeperVac attacks dust bunnies in the corner

Swiffer SweeperVac can reach places my regular vacuum can't

Here are more Spring Cleaning tips from Swiffer

Swiffer has teamed up with "Dog Whisperer", Cesar Millan to help pet owners with some Spring Cleaning tips that will help pets stay calm and keep the hair under control.

if you are stressed or frustrated when you go to pick up a cleaning tool, your dog can pick up on this negative energy and associate the cleaning tool with negativity

we are constantly cleaning pet hair and or pet food...we keep our 2-in-1 Swiffer SweeperVac around at all times to pick up the pet hair while trapping the crumbs

clean up after your pet has an accident - if he's peed in an area once, he's more likely to pee there again because of the odor

The Swiffer SweeperVac won't replace your regular vacuum but its light and great for small jobs on hard floors like in kitchens, bathrooms, etc. It retails for $39.99 and can be found at many mass merchandise and grocery stores. Check it out and let me know what you think!
