October 6th is National Noodle Day and We're Celebrating with P.F. Changs

Noodles for everyone!

Or, at least everyone in my family because I received a sweet package from P.F. Changs as a thank you for helping spread the word about National Noodle Day and the festivities they are planning in celebration.

P.F. Changs Home Noodle Meals

We will be sampling two of the 4 Home Noodle Meals by P.F. Changs:

Grilled Chicken Teriaki with Lo Mein

Pepper Steak with Chow Fun

I've had P.F. Chang's Home Meals before so I know how easy they are to make and how delicious they are as well. Plus, I don't need any other excuse to eat noodles for dinner - if it's noodle day then I'm eating noodles.

All opinions are my own and this post was neither reviewed nor approved prior to being published. Also, the meals really are deelish but the "Aint no shame in lo mein" t-shirt is the bomb!

Riceworks - good snacking giveaway and confession

Have you ever come across a new kind of chip that you simply fell in love with?

The kind of chip that made you think about snacking differently? A chip that had a richer flavor, and didn't leave your finger greasy?

For me, this was Riceworks.

Made with whole grain, brown rice, Riceworks chips satisfy my chip craving, but are nutritionally better than the standard corn or potato chip. Also, I LOVE brown rice. Period. It's good for you, it's filling, and I love the slightly nutty flavor. So, a chip made with brown rice? A chip with no artificial flavors, no cholesterol, and no trans fat? Made for me.

Confession time

Do you have a snacking confession to make? Here's mine...

Occasionally I still buy the large multi-pack of chips for the girls to pack with the school lunches. I hide the whole bag in the basement. If I don't, The Mister will eat every last bag. But also? I have to hide it from me! I can't eat just one chip, curl, or puff.

Tell Riceworks your snacking confession on Facebook and you can get a $1.00 off coupon to help you make the switch!

Win 5 Bags of Riceworks

Riceworks is giving me coupons for 5 bags of chips that I can give away to one of you! Here's how to enter: (each counts as a separate entry - just leave me a comment for each one)

1. Confess your snacking sin right here in a comment

2. "Like" Riceworks on Facebook and confess your snacking sin there too!

3. Post a link to this giveaway on twitter and mention @JanineNickel in the tweet (put the URL to the tweet in your comment)

Contest open to residents of US and Canada 18 years and over, and ends Saturday, 9/17/11 at noon Eastern. Winner will be notified via email and has 48 hours to respond before I choose another winner.

Good Luck!

Disclosure: I will receive coupons for 5 bags of chips as a thank you for helping spread the word about Riceworks and the Facebook app. But, if you think I'm writing about this just for chips, you are crazy and need to confess more than your snacking sins I bet. I love love these chips. I met the Riceworks folks at Blogher. And I'm excited to have you try them too!

The New Whole Foods in Rockville is Open and Makes Me Feel Like Cooking!

Last week I was lucky enough to go to a preview of the new Whole Foods in Rockville and see all the cool new things they have going on.

One particular area of interest to me is the new cooking area.

A large wooden counter top where they feature something new to try each week (or day I can't remember) with iPads to help you find the ingredients and cooking instructions to fit your family's needs.

Plus there are these grinders and fresh grains that you can purchase by the bulk and then grind to make your own specialty four (wheat, corn, etc).

Then there are these huge stainless steel vats of things like flavored honey, infused olive oil, and agave syrup. Grab a bottle and a cork and fill 'er up!

Definitely make a trip over there ASAP! They have a great calendar of events, unbelievable goodies in the bakery (ask for the tea-infused cakes) and facial imaging technology (in the Whole Body area) that can recommend the products they have that will best help you with your skin's needs.

All that and free parking in a garage underneath - keeping my car cool in summer and warm in winter.

Disclosure: I received a goody bag of Whole Foods product during the preview though all opinions expressed here are my own and this post was not required, approved or even reviewed prior to being published.

You Don't Have to be a Hippie to like Melba Toast

The very first time I tried Old London Melba Toast I was maybe 7. My mother was going through what I can only describe as a "hippie" phase when it came to food. Out went the white bread and Twinkies and in came the brown (wheat) bread and carob chips. I have no idea who she was kidding with the carob chips since she LOVES good quality, dark chocolate as much as I do.

One of the few things she introduced that I LOVED was Melba Toast. It's light and crunchy with lots of flavor. Melba toast was great with cheese, peanut bugger, or just plain butter and jelly!

Old London has Healthy Snacks

 Old London Snacks

Recently I received three packages of Old London snacks including Bagel Crisps, Melba Snacks and good old fashion Melba Toast (no added seasoning) to try. These are great snack options for my family as they are all low in calories with no trans fat and the melba toast has whole grain.

The girls loved dipping the bagel chips and round melba snacks into hummus along with fresh carrot and celery sticks. We also found out there were a very filling snack when paired with cheese and a piece of fruit. I'm trying to cut back on my bread intake these days so I devoured them with tuna, and along side my daily salad, instead of my usual sandwich on two slices of high-calorie bread.

Want more recipes? Check out the Taste for Everyday Health website where there are all kinds of great things to try like lasagna, tiramisu and quesadilla dippers all made with Old London products!

Say Aloha with Old London when you win a trip to Hawaii

Be sure to enter the Aloha Old London Sweepstakes on Facebook where you can enter to win a trip to Ohau!

The Old London website has easy fitness tips and living healthy tips so you can enjoy Hawaii AND your new beach-ready figure. But hurry because the sweepstakes closes in June!

Then come back and let me know if you've ever tried Old London melba toast. And be sure to leave a comment telling me my mother is not the only one to went through that "hippie" phase.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Old London and received product samples and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate. All opinions are my own and my stories are true - my mom really did introduce me to melba toast when I was a kid during her hippie food stage. I think she also introduced me to some seaweed stuff but thankfully I blocked most of that from my memory.
