Winter Break Nintendo Style

I hope everyone enjoyed survived the holiday break with their kids home from school.

We fared well thanks to the geniuses at Nintendo.

It was a cold, windy, and even snowy break here in the DC area. We got out of the house every day but the times that we were hanging out inside were bearable, if not enjoyable, because the Twofer had a plethora of new Nintendo games AND two Nintendo 3DS systems as well!

The girls got Mario Kart Wii (WITH the steering wheel) from their aunt and uncle.

This is the game they have been asking for over and over again and it did not disappoint! Driving with the steering wheel is too much fun and at one point they had to kick me out!

They got LEGO Harry Potter from Santa.

I didn't play this with them but I could hear the cheers and cries as they moved up in 'years' at the Hogwarts school. For any Harry Potter fan, this game is a must. (Cloak and wand not included.)

They got Wii Party from Santa as well.

This I did play and there are actually a gazillion games all packed into one neat little box. Tons of different games to choose from with games for one to four players. Just make sure your wii remotes are fully charged or have new batteries because this one will keep them busy for a while!

And they got Nintendo 3DS systems with two games each from our friends at Nintendo!

Each of them received Style Savvy and Nintendogs & Cats games. Style Savvy is for the fashionista in all of us as we create outfits for ourselves and for the customers that visit our boutique.  Nintendogs & Cats has been a blessiing for this family as we are putting off getting a REAL pet for another year (I hope). Though I can see the girls have a knack for teaching their pets tricks, and being responsible for feeding and loving, we'll see if I wait a whole year.

It wasn't ALL electronics.

I feel the need here to tell you that we did a LOT more than electronics over break. We went to the aquarium, we went swimming at the indoor pool, we visited with family, and we played tons of board games. But if there is a week to allow more screen time than usual, this was the week we were doing it and I'm glad we had a collection of new games to play.

What did YOU play this holiday?

Disclosure: Some of these games were purchased and some were given to us as part of my being a Nintendo Ambassador and I have explained where they came from in the post. Memorial Day

My dad was a Marine.

He fought in the Vietnam War.

He earned a Purple Heart.

We celebrate Memorial Day not just as a day off from work or school, but it's a day to say thank you to all those who are or have served. And I'd like to thank their families too.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - Arlington National Cemetary

Thank You - for all that you do.

Happy Valentine's Day! Our song to us

This Valentine's Day we celebrated with a family dinner - normal for us - and everyone exchanged cards and took turns opening them up.

We also had cake.

Not just any cake

This Valentine's Day we had Ice Cream Cake from Carvel!!

Em went to a birthday party at Carvel where each child got to decorate their own mini ice cream cake to bring home. Not only did they have fun but...

can you think of a better goody bag???!?!?!?!

One that you EAT!

No plastic crap to toss out!

It also inspired a song...and candles:

Want your own?

Here's a coupon for a Carvel ice cream cake so you can enjoy one too!

Now just come up with an excuse to celebrate with one.

Hope you enjoyed your Valentine's Day surrounded by love,

New Year, New 'Tude

Some things have me stressed out already just 5 days into the new year. But nothing that compares to what a few friends of mine are dealing with.

I was catching up with my brother yesterday and we were chatting about just how lucky we both really are. Sure we have things that stress us out, but even at the very worst....

say I lose my job, have to leave our home, whatever I imagine my worst to be...

at least I have my health and my kids health.

I have my family, good friends, lots of love and joy.

I have my mind,  I have peace.

And then my brother said something really brilliant,

"I'm going to spend more time being thankful for the things I have TODAY because life is too short to worry about the things I might lose tomorrow."

I have no idea if that is original or not.

I just liked it.

And I want to live it.

Every day.

What are you focused on as we start the new year? I'd love to hear about something really inspiring.

Twincident #157 - Ornaments should be brought out 48 hours before the tree

Every year I make the same mistake. I bring the ornaments out the same day that we decorate the tree.

This year I learned my lesson.

Ornaments are to be brought out from storage at least 48 hours before the tree.

Because if you don't, the tree will be un-decorated within an hour of going up.

Kids, or at least my kids, need to play with the ornaments. Every year we decorate the tree and without fail I find certain ornaments all over the a make-shift dollhouse, playing with the Barbies, and scattered across the floor in a parade.

This year I remembered to bring the ornaments out early and not only that, I had a mini tree too!

The Twofer took the mini tree and set it up where the real tree will go.

And then the play commenced!

I'm hoping they had enough time to play and that the tree will stay decorated this year.

What do you think?
