Celebrate Conservation and Enter to Win a Frigidaire ENERGY STAR appliance

Remember when I got my Frigidaire Affinity Washer and Dryer?

One of the things I learned was that there IS no way to choose the size of the load - meaning there is no way to choose the water level. WHY? Because my Frigidaire washer is so smart it can FEEL how much water to use.

That is just one reason why Frigidaire was named the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for Appliances by the Department of Energy and the EPA!

To celebrate their achievements in conserving water, energy, and more - Frigidaire is giving away a different eco-friendly appliance each week.

All you have to do to enter to win is take the Eco-Friendly Options Poll on the Frigidaire Facebook page!

Other ways to conserve during Earth Month

Frigidaire sent me a gift card to use to help take a small step toward greener living this month. We decided to use it to invest in gardening supplies so we can continue to grow our own, chemical-free, organic veggies!

What would you do with $50 to be a little greener?

Janine

Disclosure: I received a gift card from Frigidaire as a gift to go a little greener. I chose to write about their accomplishments. I received a Frigidaire Affinity washer and dryer back in 2009 as part of a Test-Drive campaign but I am not contracted to continue writing about it. I do so because I tryly enjoy the product! All opinions are my own and this post was neither approved nor reviewed prior to being published.

Plant a seed, grow a field of dreams **UPDATE**

**update**

Vote for the Plant a Seed Super Bowl commercial!

Click HERE to vote and look for the image with the green grass and fence.

.....Original post......
I am so proud to be chosen to help Mom Central and Kelloggs spread the word about the Frosted Flakes Plant a Seed campaign that helps communities maintain their playing fields.

Kelloggs Frosted Flakes realizes that important things happen to kids on playing fields. Kids gain self-esteem, make new friends, learn about teamwork, and stay healthy. Through the program, people can nominate a field, show support for fields around the country, and start their own "seed packs".

Visit the Frosted Flakes Plant a Seed site now and get a preview of tonight's Super Bowl commercial before it airs!

And check out Robin's success story too. It will inspire you to nominate a field in your area that needs some work.

And now I'm off to inspect the fields in my town,

This isn't something you see everyday

I read about this in the local paper but finally saw it with my own eyes - a homemade electric car!

The woman's husband made it for her to use on quick trips around town. Now that gas is dropping along with the temperature, I wonder if she'll stash it for the winter?

I like the idea of something simple for all the running around I do, but there's something very Flintstones about this one and I don't know if I'm secure enough to really use it.
I'd have to pimp it up with some fringe, rims, and a shiny grill. Definitely paint it black.

Any ideas?

A Kid’s party with no gifts? Think of the trees we’d save!

OK, so this is really cool. I came across this company on twittermoms and had to give them a little plug because it's such a cool idea!

I've mentioned before that kid's birthday parties (including my own bash for the twfoer) can often get over-the-top. And I can't even begin to think about how eco-UNfriendly that 5-year party was! Well ECHoage can help parents make their child’s party a little greener, a lot less messier, and helps engage ALL participants in a discussion about giving. Plus, the birthday boys and girls are loving it because they get to pick one or two BIG gifts and they FEEL GOOD about their choices.

Here’s the scoop:
When you sign up to ECHOage your party you pick an online invitation design, pick a charity, and invite your guests. Guests are encouraged to give a secure online gift of money instead of a wrapped present when they RSVP. ECHOage then pools the payments and sends half to the charity you chose. The other half is sent back to you to purchase one BIG gift for your child.

Here's why I find this so attractive (and y'all know how I love to make lists)

  • Greener, Cleaner, and Nicer Online invitations mean less paper.
  • Fewer packaged gifts means less paper, plastic, and packaging to discard.
  • Guests have the opportunity to learn about charity and the gift of giving to others instead of bringing a wrapped present.
  • Birthday boys and girls get to choose which charity will benefit from their generosity and leaves them with a really good feeling.
  • Secure online giving is easy and parents don’t have to shop, wrap or remember a gift (yea! no more leaving the gift on the kitchen table!).
  • Host parents can choose to include their child in choosing the BIG gift, or surprise them at the party!

Resistance?

ECHOage has thought of just about every concern too so check out their FAQs if you are considering an ECHOage party. Even if you aren’t ready to have an ECHOage party, they have great language to use when you sit down and start talking to your kids about charity and what it means to give.

Here’s a big Twofer Thumbs Up to ECHOage for the One Gift-One Cause birthday party option!

Feeling a little more socially responsible,
