Eastern Market - a favorite DC destination...with donuts!

I have a few things that I love to do when I venture into Washington, DC. One of them is Eastern Market which is a blending of food festival and flea market just south of the Capitol.

Most recently I went with my cousin and her boyfriend who moved literally across the street from Eastern Market almost a year ago.

Sometime I envy their location, but I know my wallet is heavier because I live in the burbs. If you go you MUST stop by these vendors...

First, get a crepe from Crepes at the Market. There is a full menu of suggested combinations (sweet or savory) and you are free to come up with your own. We had strawberry/banana/Nutella, apples/ham/cheddar, and egg/spinach/tomato/feta (see whrrl.com story below for a closer look) The crepes are served in faux newspaper (oui, tres francais) and drinks are just $1. Oh, and don't give the crepe chef the money. You'll see a set of four fishbowls filled with money ($1s, $5s, $10s, $20s) so you can make your own change.

Second, browse around the outside of the brick building and you'll find Kessler Art. I love the folk-art type of work he does and this work would look great in child's room or office.

Third: ss you enter the fenced area of the Flea market find The Red Persimmon. It's not hard to find with colorful handbags and Indian-inspired printed tees.

Finally, don't you dare leave the market without getting a large order (seriously - to get a small is not only pointless but insulting) of Migue's Magnificent Mini Donuts. Made to order on the spot, these donuts are light and fluffy AND flavored however you like. Choose from powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, colored sprinkles and more. You choose the topping, shake it on, and enjoy! (see more photos in the whrrl story below)
