Getting Gorgeous with Degree Recap: It's all about taking care of ME
Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 06:22AM I can't believe it's been almost two weeks since the Getting Gorgeous event in New York City and I finally have the chance to give some thought to the day...really the weekend.
The Getting Gorgeous weekend for ME was what I might call indulgent...in a good way!
I took the train up with The Twofer and basically left them with Grandma for the weekend while I lunched with fabulous people at The Core Club, enjoyed drinks with friends in Brooklyn which then turned into dinner (do you KNOW how long it has been since I had drinks at one place and then casually moved on to dinner at another place? I felt so grown up. Wait - I AM a grown up!), and leisurly slept in the next morning with nothing to do but chatter away with my dear friend and then head over to Getting Gorgeous to be pampered by fashion and beauty brands!
As a wife, mother, self-employed contractor - I have to care for lots of people. To not have anyone else in the world under your care for 48 hours but you? That is devine.
Which leads me to the event.
Getting Gorgeous with Degree reminded me to take time to take care of ME
GG founders Audrey and Vera said it right on the info card we were handed as we checked into the event, "We started Getting Gorgeous Events because we felt YOU deserved a BREAK...". THANK YOU my friends for this reminder and for an amazing event where I met all kinds of people and brands that will help me take better care of myself.
Here are my personal highlights:

As the title sponsor for this even Degree Women is responsible for the smile I had all weekend. They also had two great things going on in their area: fitness expert Kristin McGee and a new type of deoderant that has "motion sense". Since I've revived my workout level this year I was energized by meeting Kristin and she has some really easy ways to get a little more fitness in your day like swapping out your desk chair for a yoga ball (totally going to try this) and instead of dinner with my girl friends suggest we all go on an evening walk now that it's warming up! The motionSENSE deoderant is really interesting because it is activated by motion not moisture which means it keeps you protected longer!
The other day I wrote about my new ballet flats that have embellishments you can swap out by snapping them off. Flip Out flip flops are similar BUT the embellishments screw on and off for a better grip! They are also way cute and have some very sparkly choices of bling to add to their line of flip flops and jellies.

The flip flops above are JUST $19.99 and come with 2 sets of shoe jewelry!
PLUS - use code GORG at checkout to get 20% off until December 31, 2011
Sisters Liz Lange and Jane Wagman were on-hand to talk about all things fashion and also to give away a table full of shoes!
Flickr photographer The Fat Apple got a shot of the shoes so go HERE since I don't think I can use the image.
But you can see how fun these sisters are in the video below:
Once again Hanes stays true to the word comfort! They had with them (and gave us) their most comfortable socks which I slipped on the minute I got home from New York!

They also had on display some very comfy looking undergarments like the Hanes comfort flex fit bra that I want to try. ooh! I just noticed the comfort fit line is on sale at Hanes right now! Ordering...BRB (that's be right back)
OK, where did I leave off? Oh right...
Last year's Getting Gorgeous event introduced me to a very comfortable pair of jeans from Miraclebody. This year's event had Miraclesuit swim suits! Now wait, everyone hate shopping for swim suits but these are designed to make you look thinner.
I'm eyeing up this one:
Something every woman needs in their purse is a mini stain remover. The new Tide to Go Mini is small, subtle (blue wrapper instead of the tell-tale bright orange of Tide) and powerful on stains!
Stick with the To Go size for your purse!
I'm going to stock up on these and keep one in each purse and each car.
I really felt Georgous!
There were other great highlights but this is all I have time for now as I keep getting distracted and shopping for each brand I write about! Seriously - I think this post just took me 4 hours with all the browsing and shopping I just did. The bottom line is that this event prompted me to take an weekend to spoil myself with some ME time.
A big THANK YOU to the sponsors and hosts of Getting Gorgeous and congratulations on a terriffic event that helped me feel spoiled and special! I know I'm not the only one.

Disclosure: I received a number of free products and a goody bag but mostly I received a reminder that I need to take the time to nurture ME more often. All opinions expressed here are my own and this post was neither reviewed nor approved by anyone prior to being published. This post will qualify as an entry into a contest to win a prize but really - if you think I just spend 4 hours for the chance to win a prize you are crazy. I did it because I really enjoyed the event, the sponsors, and Audrey and Vera!
