52 to Fabulous - Color My World

I am welcoming myself back into this weekly series that explores different ways to get fabulous in just 52 weeks. I've missed a few weeks but that's the beauty of this series - you can always jump right back in!

This week we're talking about using color to help you stay organized.

Currently I keep my family activity on my computer using iCal and color code each entry depending on who it relates to. I use:

Blue for Home (repair services, events we're hosting, vacations, etc.)

Red for Me (blog contest ending dates, appointments, conference calls for work, etc.)

Green for The Mister (appointments when he tells me)

Pink for The Twofer (birthday parties, school events, Daisy meetings...)

The challenge this week is to come up with other ways to get organized using color.

One summer I lived with a friend and his family in Virginia. His mom had the most incredible closet. All of her shoes were lined up perfectly on shoe racks and they were organized by color...like a rainbow.

The first time I saw it I chuckled.

Then I quickly came to appreciate the genius of it.

And how many shoes she had...wow.

Now I'm searching for other ways to use the rainbow to help keep me organized. Any ideas?

same thing happened to me when I stayed with my cousin. she had all her shirts lined up on hangers by color. I had never seen anything like that. I tried it a few times, but it's not me...i was very impressed tho!

We are cut from similar cloth. I also color code everything. My iCal is the same. Blue = Home Green = Work Pink = play Orange = Health Purple = Spirit Helps me keep balance in my life.

When telling my college roommate about my wedding planning, she stopped me and said, "Let me guess. You have a full year planner, with key things color coded by highlighters. You've got a binder system with tabs for each item. Once you've settled, you transfer each finalized item into a portable file that you can have at the wedding." How'd she guess?

And, I just sorted out my closet to reorg clothing by color. Is messy lately, and have to get back to my good habits!

Now this is getting long, but I also recall when I was dealing in a casino. The general manager came up, and asked, "How much did you just pay that black jack."

"I have no idea," I replied. "But it was right."

"If you don't know how much it was, how do you know you paid him right?"

I went on to explain my very complicated mental way to visualize that if they had 2 red chips, I paid it 3 green chips. Simple, but my color system worked for the most complicated bets, and I traded up in my head by color. He had never seen someone with a similar system to figuring it out visually.

Holy shoes batgirl!! That is crazy... but very pretty to look at. I too organize my closet by color but just my shirts and pants. It makes it easier to find what I am looking for in the foggy haze of the morning,
