It's Christmas Eve and Target Wants to Know- What was your most surprising gift?

Target and TwitterMoms asked a very interesting question recently, ""What was the most surprising gift you've ever received?"

One year when my husband and I were still just dating I decided to stay in town for Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve had become my families special time together so I was a little more than sad even though I would be spending it with him.

I couldn't shake the feeling that I was so far away from my family and our traditions...including a tree.

At the time we lived in a small apartment and since I would be leaving Christmas Day to see my family, we opted not to get a tree.

Getting Sentimental

For me a tree means so many things. My family ALWAYS had a tree, even if we waited until the last minute to get one. More than once my dad would wait for us to come home from college - even if it meant December 24th - so that we could go as a family to pick out our tree. To not have one during the build-up to that holiday was even more depressing but I didn't want it to go to waste so I didn't much.

The Surprise

The day before Christmas Eve I had been out shopping for last minute gifts and came home exhausted but excited for a long weekend. I came into the apartment and there, in front of me, fully decorated, was a Christmas tree. Our first Christmas tree together.

And there was a fire in the fireplace.

And there might have been Christmas songs playing in the background...

And a cute little Christmas-y sweater on him...

but he'll deny it all if you ask him.

And you know what? It was a damn good Christmas Eve.

What was your most surprising holiday gift?
